Brno Airport Eyes European Hub Connectivity
Located 7.5 km (4.7 mi.) from the centre of Brno, the Czech Republic’s second most populous city, Brno-Turany Airport (BRQ) handled more than 680,000 passengers in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 46%, surpassing its previous passenger record set in 2011.
With a potential catchment of 2.5 million people, BRQ has witnessed growth in both business and leisure travel, particularly during the summer months. In collaboration with its 10 airline partners, the airport has service to 35 nonstop destinations, most of which are seasonal.
The airport reported 550,000 passengers during the summer 2023 season, from June to September, up 50% year-on-year. The most popular destinations were London, Antalya, Türkiye; Burgas, Bulgaria; and Hurghada and Marsa Alam, Egypt. A landmark was also achieved in December 2023 when Italian carrier Neos commenced the first long-haul service from BRQ, flying to Phuket, Thailand.
Working closely with travel agency Čedok, BRQ’s 2023 summer schedule saw the addition of four new destinations—Madeira, Tirana, Tivat and Fuerteventura—mostly serviced by Smartwings. New services for summer 2024 include charter flights to Cyprus, Marsa Matrouh in Egypt, and Dalaman on the Aegean Riviera in Turkey.
As a member of Routes 360, the only digital platform dedicated to route development, BRQ has uploaded multiple route opportunities to its profile looking to continue its momentum of passenger growth.
