Bahrain International Airport Maps Future Air Service Growth
Bahrain International Airport (BIA), the host of Routes World 2024, connects to over 72 destinations through partnerships with more than 27 airlines. Positioned in the Arabian Gulf, the Kingdom of Bahrain serves as a vital trade hub linking Asia, Europe, and Africa, offering unparalleled access to regional markets. As the most diversified economy in the Arabian Gulf region, Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 aims for a sustainable, globally competitive, and equitable economy. The airport plays a crucial role in realizing the government's vision, offering both business and leisure travelers a blend of traditional and modern experiences in Bahrain.
The new passenger terminal at the airport has increased Bahrain International Airport’s capacity to 14 million passengers annually with advanced infrastructure, facilities, and capabilities. BIA has been recognized as the World's Best Airport for Baggage Delivery, cementing its reputation as a leader in air travel excellence. This impressive achievement is just one of the many accolades BIA has received recently.
At the prestigious SKYTRAX Airport Awards, BIA took home the top award for the "Best Airport Staff in the Middle East 2024". This recognition is a testament to the airport's commitment to providing exceptional service to its passengers.
But that's not all - SKYTRAX has also ranked BIA as the 3rd best airport in the region and the 22nd best airport in the world, a remarkable feat that underscores its dedication to excellence.
With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to passenger satisfaction, Bahrain International Airport continues to set the standard for air travel excellence.
Bahrain International Airport has witnessed significant growth, with 11% increase in passenger traffic and 8% increase in air traffic movement in Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023. This momentum is mirrored by the airport's expansion efforts, with BIA continuing to increase its destination offerings.
Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has also expanded its network, introducing Guangzhou and Shanghai as its latest destinations. Scheduled flights to these cities commenced in May 2024. Additionally, the airline has announced a new connection from Bahrain to Munich, starting July 1 with a 4X-weekly service.
Meanwhile, Saudi LCC flynas has increased its operations from 7 to 12 flights per week and added Jeddah as a new destination. This development enhances connectivity between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, building on the momentum established in 2023 when flynas began operating 7X-weekly flights between King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and Bahrain following an MoU signed by Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to promote both countries as a single tourist destination.
Finally, Fly Jinnah will be launching a new route from Islamabad to Bahrain in June 13, with two flights per week. This new route will provide passengers with more travel options and further solidify Bahrain's position as a key hub in the region.
With the population estimated to nearly double before 2030, reaching over 2 million, and in alignment with Bahrain’s Economic Vision and inbound tourism drive, Bahrain offers excellent growth potential for airlines seeking to expand their services.
