Avelo Airlines is adding four more routes from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in southern Connecticut—including flights to Atlanta—growing its original U.S. East Coast base to 21 destinations served.
Located about 60 mi. south of Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport (BDL), which serves Hartford, and 80 mi. northeast of New York’s LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports, HVN saw Avelo begin flights in November 2021 with six routes to Florida destinations. Avelo’s steady expansion at the airport will continue in May, when four routes exclusive to the airline will launch.
From May 2, Avelo will open service between HVN and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The route will be served 4X-weeky.
The airline operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet, a mix of -700s and -800s.
Also from May 2, Avelo will start flights between HVN and Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in North Carolina, flying the route 2X-weekly.
From May 9, the carrier will commence 2X-weekly flights between HVN and McGhee Tyson Airport, which serves Knoxville, Tennessee.
From May 17, Avelo will begin service between HVN and Destin/Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) in Florida, operating the route 2X-weekly. VPS will become the eighth Florida destination Avelo serves from HVN.
Avelo notes that including service from BDL, Avelo will fly “more nonstop routes from Connecticut than any other airline operating in the state.”
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont says in a statement: “Tweed-New Haven Airport is a key partner in our overall efforts to attract business and job growth in the New Haven region. More flights and travel options help ensure that the region has the reliable transportation opportunities needed for our economic growth.”
Jorge Roberts, CEO of Avports, which runs HVN, adds: “These new routes from Avelo mark a significant milestone in Tweed-New Haven Airport’s ongoing efforts to provide more convenient, affordable and efficient travel options. We look forward to our continued partnership with Avelo in support of their work to give passengers increased connectivity.”
