On May 1, Air Seychelles introduced an Airbus A330-200 aircraft on its international routes and doubled its Mahe – Abu Dhabi return services from two to four a week. The aircraft and schedule change increased the airline’s international route capacity by approximately 40 per cent.
The two-class A330 is configured with 18 flat-bed Business Class seats and 236 economy seats, in total 40 more seats than the Boeing 767-300ER it replaced. It will be used for international flights to Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg. The airline is also offering twice-weekly Mauritius flights operated by an Etihad Airways A320.
“This is a milestone in our plans for Air Seychelles and an important next step in re-establishing our international presence,” said Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer, Air Seychelles. “Tourism is booming in the island nation and there are an increasing number of visitors coming in from around the world, so by responding to this need for air traffic, we can both increase revenues and position Air Seychelles as a carrier of choice.”
Currently, 23 Air Seychelles pilots and 66 cabin crew are receiving full safety and service procedure training at Etihad Airways Training Academy in Abu Dhabi to operate the new A330 aircraft. Another A330-200 is due to come on line in January 2013, allowing the carrier to launch services to the Chinese capital, Beijing in early 2013.
