Uganda Airlines plans to add three more African destinations to its network in September, a move the carrier says is a precursor to opening flights to Europe later this year.
From Sept. 12, the airline will launch service between its Entebbe International Airport (EBB) base and Abuja, Nigeria. The route will be flown 2X-weekly with Airbus A330-800 aircraft.
From Sept. 25, Uganda Airlines will kick off flights from EBB to Lusaka, Zambia, and Harare, Zimbabwe. Both routes will be operated 4X-weekly with Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft.
The addition extends the carrier’s network to 16 airports, mostly in Africa, with flights beyond Africa to Dubai and Mumbai. CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki said in a statement that the new routes “lay the groundwork …. [to] expand our footprint to points in Europe and Asia.”
The airline has gained approval to operate flights to London Gatwick Airport, and has said it plans to add the UK point later this year.
This version of Uganda Airlines launched commercial operations in August 2019, focusing on developing a network across Africa before wider international expansion.
