Avelo Airlines Unveils Cancun, Montego Bay As First Two International Routes

Avelo Airlines, the U.S. carrier launched in 2021, will operate international routes for the first time in November with service to Jamaica and Mexico from the northeast U.S.

The Houston-based airline will add Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, to its network in November, basing two Boeing 737NG aircraft there. The airport sits between Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts.

From Nov. 16, Avelo will open service between BDL and Montego Bay, Jamaica. From Nov. 20, the carrier will commence flights between BDL and Cancun, Mexico. The all-737NG carrier will fly both routes 2X-weekly.

In addition to the two international routes, Avelo will begin flying from BDL to five domestic points in November: Concord (USA) and Wilmington in North Carolina; Daytona Beach and Lakeland (LAL) in Florida; and Houston Hobby. All routes will be flown 2X-weekly.

From LAL, Avelo will open service to seven destinations in late October and early November, all to be served 2X-weekly: Atlanta; BDL; Manchester (MHT), New Hampshire; USA; Wilmington (ILG), Delaware; Rochester (ROC), New York; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

From USA, the airline will add service in November to six destinations: Albany and ROC in New York; BDL; MHT; LAL; and ILG.

“The expansion we are announcing today is the most substantial in our airline’s three-year history,” CEO Andew Levy said in a July 24 statement. While Avelo is not publicly traded and does not report detailed financial results, Levy cited “momentum and growth … across our business” and said the company has posed “three consecutive profitable quarters.”

By November, Avelo will serve 52 destinations spanning 23 states, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Mexico.

Avelo launched operations in April 2021 with U.S. West Coast flights from Hollywood Burbank Airport in southern California, and in November 2021 added East Coast service from Tweed–New Haven Airport in southern Connecticut.
